Centro per le Biotecnologie e la Ricerca Biomedica

Palermo, Italy

Back working on one of the most important projects in Sicily of the last 20 years, HOK’s Centro per le Biotecnologie e la Ricerca Biomedica in Palermo. It is great to contribute to such a significant and innovative project

With more than 600 scientists and staff members, the facility will be a global hub for biomedical research and development, managed by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre. Its focus on translational science will move research quickly from the lab to the marketplace, reflected by the design that promotes communication by organizing the research facility as a small, compact village integrated into the landscape. At the heart of the village, a pedestrian street connects all of the buildings and offers spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north and the mountains to the south.

The campus will also be one of the world’s most environmentally responsive research facilities and the largest LEED certified project in Italy.
